The Last of Us 2 Remastered Approaching? Naughty Dog's Associate May Have Spilled the Beans
We have further reason to believe that Sony is working on a remaster of The Last of Us 2. The implication is that it would be released on PS5 and PC and would be a director's cut version of the game.
In July 2023, Gustavo Santaolalla - Argentinian composer, creator of the soundtrack to, among other games, the The Last of Us series - revealed, that he is working on a "new version" of The Last of Us: Part II. It would supposedly appear in it as an NPC.
New reports on The Last of Us 2 Remastered
So far, Sony has not announced a refreshed version of the second TLoU, but now another clue has started circulating on the web indicating that it may be in the pipeline. The LinkedIn profile of Mark Pajarillo, the lead outsourcing artist at the studio Naughty Dog, published a post with the following content was spotted (via VGC):
"Responsible for overseeing the production of all outsourced environment art assets, weapons and interactive props for two iconic games, The Last of Us: Part One and The Last of Us 2: Remastered.
Everything therefore indicates that the remaster of The Last of Us: Part II is indeed on the way. There are indications supporting the fact that it will be the so-called director's cut version of the game. This makes sense insofar as a remaster as such is not needed for this game, because while its PS5-dedicated edition was not released, the one that came out on PS4, received an update enabling us to play at 60 frames per second on the newer console.
Given Sony's policy over the past few years, it can be expected that the release of the alleged The Last of Us 2: Remastered on PlayStation 5 will be followed by a release on PC. At least this was the case with The Last of Us: Part I. The second game, on the other hand, is one of the few Sony exclusives - along with The Last of Us: Part I, among others. Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne and the remake of Demon's Souls - which has so far failed to make it to the platform.
The Last of Us 2 in PS Plus?
While we're at The Last of Us: Part II, it's worth mentioning that the game may soon be made available as part of PS Plus Extra and Premium subscriptions. Reddit user by the handle BigLadMelton spotted an advertisement for the PS Plus Deluxe service in PS Store - a variant replacing PS Plus Premium in countries where you can't stream games from Sony's catalog - tempting users with three productions: Horizon: Forbidden West, Hogwarts Legacy and the said The Last of Us: Part II.
However, it's hard to say whether we're actually dealing with games about to hit the service (for the moment, of the three items mentioned, it offers only the second Horizon, which lived to see a Complete Edition for PS5 today and is also heading to PC in somewhat more distant future).
While the appearance of TLoU: Part II would seem logical - after all, the game is already more than three years old - the release of the just under 8-month-old Hogwarts Legacy, which was a huge market success, seems questionable to say the least. It is therefore possible that we are dealing with advertising trial versions of these titles. - the only one that has not received such a trial version so far is The Last of Us: Part II.
