July's release of The Forgotten City went without much publicity, but it turns out that in the end the game met with a very warm reception. Modern Storyteller, the studio responsible for the project, boasted that out of more than two thousand reviews by Steam users, as many as 96% praised the game, which the service categorizes as "overwhelmingly positive reception".

Such a result makes The Forgotten City one of the highest rated productions by players this year. What's more, in the last 30 days positive reviews also account for 96% of the total reviews, so the appreciation wasn't temporary.

Sample player reviews from Steam

"The narrative is great, I was expecting something good (reading reviews on the net) but the game really surprised me and in good conscience I consider it to be very good. Graphically it's ok, there was a few cases of performance drop as the game stuttered, but it wasn't repulsive and frequent enough to change my feelings about the game itself. The story presented in the game is interesting, intriguing and fresh. The game also gives you a choice of decisions that result in different consequences. There's a bit of a thrill here, because a few times I jumped up out of fear :D If you sit down to play, you'll find that you'll leave the computer when you get to at least one ending. It's pretty damn addictive."

"Outer Wilds in Ancient Rome. 10/10"

"A very good production. Although quite linear as well, despite several endings. Highly recommended as the storyline is excellent. Some logical errors. A little too easy best ending. I recommend, although personally I would wait for a discount."

Unfortunately, the developers have not yet revealed the sales results, so we have to rely on the estimates of the paid version of SteamSpy, according to which The Forgotten City was bought by 141 thousand Steam users.

It's worth mentioning that the overall result is certainly more impressive, as the game was simultaneously released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, and yesterday it also debuted on Nintendo Switch.

Recall that the title is a development of ideas from the The Forgotten City mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The commercial version is much more extensive and offers a completely new visuals, powered by Unreal Engine.
