The First Descendant (TFD) - DirectX 12 Is not Supported On Your System Explained
If The First Descendant doesn't work for you due to DirectX not being supported on your system error, here you will learn more about this scenario.
Free-to-play games came a long way, starting as smaller productions made by fans for fans, to eventually become one of the cornerstones of the gaming industry. Nexon is a South Korean studio that specialises in productions running this business model. Their most recent one, The First Descendant, tells a story of fending off alien invaders by a group of humanity’s heroes in looter-shooter fashion. Even though not fully released yet (at the time of writing this article) there are people who already pre-downloaded this title and were met with “DirectX 12 is not supported on your system” error message. The situation is interesting, so let’s untangle its mysteries.
DirectX 12 is not supported on your system error message in The First Descendant explained
It’s not a great feeling when you start a game only to be greeted by an error message, in our specific situation “DirectX 12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument.”. The First Descendant unfortunately pulls out this prank for some players attempting to launch this title.
Funnily enough, it’s not the first time it does that, as there are reports of fans who have seen this prompt during the testing stage of the production. What is interesting, it happens also for people running the most powerful GPUs, like RTX4090. Due to that, everything points to some kind of software problem.
Some of the affected indicate that installing windows update KB4589211 alleviates this issue for them. However, what seems to have the most chances of success, and what worked in case of beta tests, is to wait for official release and more patches. This shows that, again, patience is gamers’ best ally.
Let’s hope that The First Descendant will fare better than other games created by Nexon. Many of them, like promising Warhaven, Veiled Experts, or MapleStory 2 were ditched by the developers and are, sadly, no longer available.
