The Elder Scrolls VI Now Officially in Early Development; Important Step
Something has moved on The Elder Scrolls VI, but it's Starfield that will continue to be the apple of Bethesda's eye. Tamriel fans need to be patient.
Bethesda has already completed work on Starfield (or at least the premiere version of the game), which gives the studio time to do other things. For example, finishing The Elder Scrolls VI, which has just emerged from the pre-production stage.
Before Tamriel fans open the champagne: the first concrete information about the new TES won't be released anytime soon. Pete Hines, publishing director of Bethesda Softworks, made it clear in an interview with Vandal (via GameSpot) that the new installment of the iconic RPG series has entered the development phase, but it's very early stage:
"Vandal: For the record, is The Elder Scrolls VI is in pre-production or concept stage?
Pete Hines: No. It is in development, but early development."
A little earlier, Hines emphasized that the news regarding TES 6 will be available after "several years." For now Starfield will remain the apple of Bethesda's eye. The space RPG is expected to be a priority for the studio "for a long time" (probably, among other things, due to the planned DLCs) and the developers are unlikely to mention other projects. And certainly not as distant as The Elder Scrolls VI.
For fans of TES are therefore left to rejoice that work is progressing at all (after five years since the official announcement), and to be patient. Especially if the speculations about the release of game at the end of the decade are true, although there is a slim chance that we won't be waiting that long for the game's debut.
