„The Best Acting I Have Seen.” This Is How Anthony Hopkins Praised The Star of One of The Best TV Series of All Time
Anthony Hopkins was so enthralled by the 2008 crime TV series that he decided to write to its star, whom he praised for his performance.
Breaking Bad is undeniably one of the best TV series ever made. This five-year adventure, which translated into 5 great seasons, invariably drew viewers in front of their TVs and infuriated more people. Including, as it turns out, Anthony Hopkins, who was so impressed by the production and the craftsmanship of those involved, most notably Bryan Cranston, that he sent a message to the actor sharing what he thought of Breaking Bad.
Hopkins was effusive in his praise of Cranston, who, he confessed in an interview with People magazine, was moved by it.
He just loved Breaking Bad and thought it was phenomenal, and I was so touched by it.
The letter that was sent by Hopkins to Cranston has been published online. And a spokesman for the Oscar winner has confirmed that it is real. Its contents show that Hopkins had made a two-week marathon of watching all seasons of Breaking Bad and, as he confessed, had “never watched anything like it” and described the series with the word “brilliant.”
Hopkins said he has lost faith in anything after years in the film industry, but he finds what Cranston and crew did in Breaking Bad stunning.
I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I've sort of lost belief in anything really. But this work of yours is spectacular – absolutely stunning. […] How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers.... every department — casting etc. managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is (that over used word) awesome. […] You and all the cast are the best actors I've ever seen.
However, he especially singled out Bryan Craston himself, whose portrayal of Walter Whit he was delighted with.
Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.
It looks like Anthony Hopkins may be one of the biggest fans of Breaking Bad and Bryan Cranston, with whom he later managed to meet in Los Angeles. Cranston brought the TV series' creator, Vince Gilligan, with him to this meeting. So the men had a chance to talk to each other, and Cranston was delighted with Hopkins himself: “I'm sitting there talking to one of the greatest actors ever and just in awe.”
