Tarkov in Space Launches; Marauders Struggles With Cheaters and Bugs [UPDATE]
Marauders launched in early access just yesterday. Reviews on Steam are mostly positive, but the list of reported bugs keeps growing. Some players are unable to even enter a match.
Update
Developers ofMarauders have published the first hotfix for the game. It introduces changes that respond to some of the negative comments and reported bugs. These are:
- matchmaking improvements to prevent errors at the match loading stage,
- improvements to the player model collision system,
- improved game balance,
- fixed problem with Space Pirate skin not available to all.
In post posted on Steam, announcing the patch, members of the Small Impact Games studio also thanked for the positive reception of their title and shared the information, on the subject of crossing the one million raid mark on the first day after the game's release.
Original message (October 4, 2022)
The highly anticipated shooter Marauders, set in an alternative world of the post-war 1990s, hit early access yesterday. The title, jokingly referred to as Escape from Tarkov in space, takes players to an abandoned space station and offers online gameplay against other people or AI opponents.
The game has already managed to spark extreme emotions. Positive reviews on Steam are beginning to be overshadowed by allegations of broken technical layer, which some people say is hard to justify even with Early Access.
Lots of problems at launch
According to the bug reporting tool available on Steam a number of underlying technical issues prevent players from continuing the game in early stages.
Endless loading screens, players falling off the map, matchmaking problems, items disappearing or duplicating, or the game shutting down - these are just some of the problems Steam users are complaining about.
"My friend and I bought the game and were very excited. Neither of us was able to play a single match, as we were both taken to the desktop after five seconds of loading. The game is literally unplayable at this point, for either of us," complains user Krosis.
"I joined the game armed, but when I welded up on the ship, I was naked. My equipment simply disappeared and did not reappear even after the match. This is a really big problem that can ruin a raid even before it starts," describes user XDeathxReconX.
In addition, just a few hours after the Early Access launch, matches seem to be overrun by cheaters using radar and aimbots, another group of disgruntled players complains.
"This game has no right to have such a price. It should be sold for half that amount. It's not perfect - the combat, movement, AI and overall gameplay really need a lot of love. Besides, we have The Cycle, which is similar to Tarkov, and Super People is coming out next week - both games are free-to-play, and I don't think Marauders has a chance to survive if it doesn't move to free-to-play model either. This game just isn't good enough to cost as much as an early level Tarkov account.
And on top of that cheaters literally on the first day," writes user shm0.
The developers are aware of the flaws and present a roadmap
In a note published on Steam along with the start of early access, the developers included a list of problems that they are aware of and are currently working on. Some of the bugs on the list overlap with those reported by players.
These include lack of support for full-screen mode, a game search cancellation button after 10 minutes that doesn't work, some team members not being allowed into matches when playing with friends, or bugs related to screen resolution and sound.
In addition, we received a full roadmap, presenting the main goals of the developers, which they plan to achieve before the release of version 1.0.
Ahead of the release of the full edition, Marauders will receive new weapons, items, customizable ships, cosmetic and collectible items, as well as a new boss.
Feedback is mostly positive
According to SteamDB, as of this moment Marauders has as much as 78% of positive ratings on Steam. In the comments there is no shortage of admiration for the recreation of the charms of Escape from Tarkov in space, and understanding and forgiving of the problems, mainly due to early access.
"Ignore all the people giving negative reviews. Of course the game needs to be polished, but after all, it was released 3 hours ago, in early access, and hasn't been fully tested. I tested it for 18 hours beforehand, so I know what I'm talking about. Of course, I encountered some bugs, but to all the people who say it's impossible to shoot or the game is boring, I have one thing to say. In the words of Sun Tzu: a matter of skill," comments user muscular dolphin biceps
To give a positive rating, players had to be able to load the game, which was not possible for everyone. So it appears that Marauders is a really good game, buried only under simple-to-diagnose bugs.
The developers plan to sustain early access for 12 to 18 months. Only after that time will we find out if all the bugs will disappear with Early Access.
