To build a strong tank in Throne and Liberty, focus on using a Sword & Shield for defense and a Greatsword for damage and AoE skills. This guide will walk you through the most important stats to prioritize, essential skills to select, and the best gear options to maximize your character class effectiveness.

Stats

If you want to learn more about Throne and Liberty, check out our guides on how to use Dimensional Soul Shards, find Salt, locate Amitoi House, and obtain valuable items like Rare Lithographs or Enchanted Ink.

To build the ultimate Tank, Strength is the most valuable stat. It significantly boosts your character’s survivability and effectiveness by increasing:

  1. Max Health
  2. Health Regeneration
  3. Melee Defense
  4. Damage Output

Focus on Strength initially until you reach its cap, then start allocating points to other stats.

Weapons

  1. Main hand weapon: Sword & Shield.
  2. Off-hand weapon: Greatsword.

The Sword & Shield and Greatsword combination excels at farming thanks to powerful AoE passives and skills. As Tank, you can not only shield your party from significant portion of incoming damage but also enhance their damage output. The biggest downsize of this build is long cooldowns, but you can find skills to reduce their times. Remember that your Greatsword's passives remain active even when using the main hand weapon.

Skills

Best Defense Skill

  1. Shield Survival Technique – Restores health, reduces incoming damage and provides a temporary shield.

Best Active Skills

  1. Strategic Rush – Charge forward, dealing damage and knocking enemies back with a high probability. Enemies pushed into walls are stunned for 2 seconds.
  2. Strike Shield – Has a short cooldown and it's a useful option for dealing extra damage.
  3. Chain Hook – This will pull enemies towards you and recue their movement speed. When used on monsters, it will pull you towards them.
  4. Gaia Crash – AoE attack that deals a massive amount of damage.
  5. Guillotine Blade – Deals a substantial damage and inflicts Weakens status. This skill can be grown with Precious Skill Growth Book: Omnipotence.
  6. Piercing Strike – Powerful AoE attack that can decrease target’s Magic, Melee and Ranged Hit chance for 6 seconds.
  7. Cruel Smite – Attacks 3 times in a row and it’s more effective on monsters. Every time a hit becomes a heavy attack, the remaining cooldown slightly decreases.
  8. Stunning Blow – Has a high chance of stunning the target for 3,2 seconds. Targets immune to Stun are Shocked for over 8 seconds instead. Every successful Heavy Attack extends the duration of these effects.
  9. Provoking Roar – Taunts nearby enemies, causing them to attack you instead of your allies.
  10. Counter Barrier – Temporarily increases shield block chance. Dodging or blocking an attack trigger a counterattack.
  11. Precision Dash – Charges towards a target, dealing increased damage based on the distance traveled.
  12. Will Breaker – Inflicts an effect that decreases Melee, Ranged Defense and Magic.

Get advantage of using the best combo of skills. For example, using Gaia Crash before Guillotine Blade will add some extra Attack Speed.
