Info that Take-Two Interactive has registered the gtavicecityonline.com and gtavi.com domains has made rounds on the web. This is true, but it has done so over a decade ago. Now, the company has only extended its reservation.
The Grand Theft Auto brand and the question of its future stirs emotions among many gamers around the world. They are additionally fuelled by various rumors and speculations, which occasionally appear on the web. The latest one, which has been circulated in the last hours by many industry websites, says that Take-Two Interactive has registered the gtavi.com and gtavicecityonline.com domains. It would seem that everything is clear - we have confirmation of many recent reports that the action of the latest installment of GTA will take place in Vice City. But after a deeper investigation, the matter is not so obvious anymore.
As we can see on Who.is website, which is the source of the latest revelations about GTA, the domain gtavicecityonline.com has not been registered now, but back in 2009, which is just over a year after the release of the fourth game. However, gtavi.com has been "dibbed" even earlier, in 2006. A few months ago, Take-Two only refreshed its reservations until 2021 and 2022 respectively. It seems that the owners of Rockstar simply booked these addresses as security for the future, so that - if, for example, there are plans to return to Vice City - they don't have to pay high amounts of money to regain the domains
All this commotion does not, of course, preclude the chances for Grand Theft Auto VI's action to take place in Vice City. However, for any official confirmation we have to wait for the first announcement from Rockstar. When will it happen? Nobody knows. It's possible that we'll have to wait for it for a while.
