System Shock Remake Delayed Yet Again

The release of System Shock remake has been delayed yet again. The game will not launch until next year.

We have bad news for those looking forward to the release of the remake of System Shock. All indications are that the game will suffer another delay.

  1. Gamers noted, that release date on the product card on Steam has been changed to March 2023.
  2. The developers at Nightdive Studios have not officially announced the delay, but on Twitter the company's president, Stephen Kick, commented on reports of the delay with a gif that seems to confirm them.
  3. Many players do not believe the new date and suspect that further delays awaits us.

The news is disappointing, as we have been waiting for the game for a very long time. The remake was announced seven years ago. When the developers on Kickstarter raised money for the game, there was talk of a late 2017 release.

After that, however, the project suffered sevral delays. One of the main reasons for them were major changes in the game's concept. Developers abandoned the Unity engine in favor of Unreal Engine 4, and then work was put on hold for a while, so that the devs could develop a new vision for the game.

We had hoped that we would not have to wait much longer, because this March Nightdive Studios informed that the work is already nearing completion. The final touches were supposed to take only a few months, but as you can see, these were overly optimistic estimates.

Of course, it's always better to delay the launch than to release the game before it's ready. Especially since all indications are that this will be the only new game that fans of the brand will receive for a long time. Work on System Shock 3 was suspended several years ago and there is no indication that they will be resumed in the near future.
