How to get a Fishing Rod in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
In order to fish in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, you need a fishing rod. Once you obtain one, you can cast your line anytime.
However, the fishing rod is only sold by a travelling merchant, Van, who visits twice per season. Van appears every 3rd and 8th day of the season, which, in turn, lasts 10 days. That means, if you miss him, you will have to wait 5 more days to buy the fishing rod.
On the day, you might see Van walking towards the Plaza in the morning before he opens his shop. Once his store is open for business, you can purchase the Fishing Rod from Van for 500 Gold.
Don’t fret if you just started the game and don’t have enough funds. You can also sell various items to Van, including Milk from your cows or wild plants and flowers.
How to fish in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
Fishing in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a simple mini-game which requires a bit of reflex. In order to fish, you need to face a body of water or a river, hold the Fishing Rod, and press “Fish”.
The button the function of fishing is assigned to depends on the platform you play on and your controller.
Once you’ve cast your line, watch out for a ! symbol above the water. Once you see it, quickly press the same button again to reel in. The fish may escape if you are too late.
Once you’ve successfully caught a fish, your character will proudly present it. The name and size of the fish will be displayed. Fish come in three different sizes, and the larger the fish, the more it’s worth.
The player can fish at the Upper River, the Beach, the Goddess Pond or the Swampy Pond.

Fish in the game are an important resource which can be used in various ways:
- Sold for money to traders,
- Used in various recipes, such as Carpaccio, Sashimi or Darn Good Soup in cooking,
