Storm Lost Her Powers in X-Men '97. What's Next for The Heroine?
The animated X-Men are back, and even for starters, they can't catch a break. What happened to Storm in X-Men '97?
Warning! There are spoilers from the X-Men '97 TV series and the Uncanny X-Men comics.
After years, Marvel's beloved TV series about a group of mutants, X-Men '97, has returned. The production continues the plots of the previous production, showing us what happens to Cyclops, Jean, Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Storm and the rest of the heroes.
Let's focus on Storm herself, who suffered a major tragedy during the episode 2 of the new series. The heroine joined forces with Magneto at the United Nations conference when protesters broke in. During the clash, when Storm decided to protect Magneto, she was hit by X-Cutioner's weapon, which uses the same type of radiation as collars that neutralize mutant powers. However, X-Cutioner's weapon seems to have more lasting effects, permanently stripping Storm of her weather-controlling powers. Therefore, at the end of the episode 2, the heroine left the X-Men and headed in an unspecified direction.
A similar situation has happened to Storm in the comics, on the basis of which we can infer how her fate will continue. Of course, there is no guarantee that the creators will decide to use the same solutions, but looking at the similarities between both situations, it can be assumed that this is what Storm's plot was inspired by and perhaps will continue to be.
How did Storm lose and regain her powers in the comics?
In Uncanny X-Men #185, Storm lost her powers while protecting not Magneto, but Rogue. The heroine tried to help the girl after she escaped Professor X's school, however, when they were in the process of teaching Rogue to control her powers, they were found by agent Henry Gyrich. The man was hunting for Rogue, whom he wanted to attack with the help of a mutant power neutralizing weapon invented by Forge. However, when he found the women, Storm shielded Rogue, thus losing her weather-controlling powers.
After these events, Storm initially left the X-Men and flew to Africa to rediscover herself there. However, the situation there made her regain faith in her heroism, understanding that she could also help others without her powers. As a result, she returned to the X-Men and fought alongside them as a human. Until Forge in Uncanny X-Men #225 invented a weapon that helped her regain her lost powers.
