SteamVR Enters New Era, Valve has Clear Goal
The SteamVR tool lived to see a new test version, marked 2.0.1. The update introduces a number of improvements known from the classic client.
The beta of SteamVR 2.0 has been released on Steam. The update, bearing the designation 2.0.1, introduces a number of options to the software, which will bring Valve's virtual environment closer to the full functionality known from the classic client.
Numerous changes and improvements
SteamVR's refreshed version is marked by improvements, which are expected to make the platform easier to use with VR goggles. Among the most important changes of version 2.0 are:
- improved store format that prioritizes VR content;
- improved virtual keyboard with added support for new languages, emotes and themes;
- integration with Steam Chat and voice chat;
- increased overlay resolution limit.
There are, of course, many more introduced and refreshed features. The full list of changes is available in the official press release on Valve's website.
The whole SteamVR 2.0 project is intended by the developers to unify the experience of using the platform and:
"(...) bring all the innovations on Steam to virtual reality."
However, it should be noted that SteamVR tool in its latest iteration is still in Beta version.
