Steam Will Offer Numerous Temporary Demos For The Game Awards
Geoff Keighley, the organizer of The Game Awards, has announced that a special event will take place on this occasion on Steam. It will be The Game Festival, where the players will be able to test on PC time-limited demos of such games as System Shock, Eastward or Carrion.
The Game Awards 2019 gala, the awarding ceremony for the best games of the year, will be held on Thursday. Geoff Keighley, the initiator and organizer of the event, informed that in addition to announcing the results of the vote and showing new trailers of upcoming titles (including Ghost of Tsushima), he prepared a special event. The Game Festival will start tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET on Steam and for 48 hours the players will be able to test demo versions of such titles as System Shock, SkateBIRD or Carrion. We will be able to check them only on Steam - until December 13 till 9 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, after which they will no longer be available. In total, demos will be offer for thirteen titles:
Demo version available as part of The Game Festival
- Shock System (Nightdive Studios)
- Eastward (Pixpil/Chucklefish)
- Spiritfarer (Thunder Lotus)
- Moving Out (SMG Studio/Devm Games/Team17)
- Röki (Polygon Treehouse/United Label)
- Chicory (Greg Lobanov)
- Wooden Nickel (Brain&Brain)
- Haven (The Game Bakers)
- Heavenly Bodies (2pt Interactive)
- Acid Knife (Powerhoof)
- The Drifter (Powerhoof)
- CARRION (Phobia/Devolver)
- SkateBIRD (Glass Bottom Games)
Admittedly, Geoff Keighley has prepared an interesting initiative together with developers and Valve. Many titles don't even have their release date announced, so special demo versions will enable us to see if it's worth waiting for them. In case of System Shock remake we will get a new sample on Unreal Engine 4 engine, which can be compared with the old one, based on Unity (download available here) and assess how much the title has changed since then.
We would like to remind that The Game Awards gala will take place on December 12 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles at 8:30 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast not only on the official YouTube channel, but also on Steam's website in 4k, where you can win games and virtual reality goggles Valve Index.
