How to get a Steam Engine in Voidtrain
Steam Engine is a big machine that is a natural upgrade from barebones, basic trolley you start the game with. In order to get it, it’s necessary to reach tier 12 of research and locomotive of the train needs to be at least 3 platforms long. To build it the following resources are required:
- 4 Iron Bars (Produced in Smelter I; Requires: 2x Scrap Metal each),
- 4 Gears (Produced in: Workbench I; Requires 1x Iron Bar each),
- 2 Forcers (Produced in: Workbench I; Requires 1x Iron Bar, 1x Grease each),
- 2 Copper Pipes (Produced in: Workbench I; Requires 1x Copper Bar each),
- 2 Bolts (Produced in: Workbench I; Requires 1x Iron Bar each).
In order to get Steam Engine installed you will have to pull up to a Depot and use a Building Console. Is it worth it though?
Should you get a Steam Engine in Voidtrain
As Voidtrain’s main focus is on gathering resources, faster moving train can make this task harder. It is usually recommended to let the train move slowly and float around it while collecting all the materials nearby.
With the lowest possible speed, the Steam Engine can be a bit too fast to pick up all the items in its vicinity. However, it comes with a benefit as it allows you to add 2 more platforms to the train. To mitigate the velocity generated by the Steam Engine, there are creatures called Leeches slowing down your vehicle, so it can be helpful to let them stay.
Speed that the engine produces can be utilised while playing with a bigger number of friends. Then it will make much more sense to let the train go faster with more players covering the larger areas.
