Steam Deck is Huge - Size Comparison With Other Portables
A Youtuber by the handle The Phawx has tweeted a series of interesting images showing how the size of Steam Deck compares to portable consoles throughout history.
While the first batch of Valve's portable Steam Deck consoles won't be distributed to a wider range of gamers until at the end of the month, some lucky people have already had the opportunity to get their hands on the device. One of such people is Cary Golomb, also known as The Phawx - a hardware youtuber who professionally deals with computer system administration. He has prepared a rather interesting summary.
Size comparison
The Phawx took a Steam deck and compared it in terms of size with various handheld consoles from the past. The list included the PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch OLED, Game Boy Advance, Nokia N-Gage, PSP, and even the infamous VirtualBoy. The size of Valve's device was also compared with the Xbox Series X/S and Wii controllers, as well as the Steam Controller or a banana (a standard size reference on the Internet) We invite you to examine selected images. The rest can be found here.
As you can see, Steam Deck is not a small piece of hardware. However, we must take into account the fact that it is intended to be a powerful platform, closer to full-scale PCs (Valve itself actually describes it as a PC). So the large size seems justified.
Enthusiasm in early reviews
In addition, it seems that the flippant statements of the creators of Steam Deck comparing it to standard dekstops seem justified. The first opinions about the platform are very positive. Will ordinary players be equally enthusiastic about it? We will find out soon.
