State of Decay 2's Development Will Continue; 2022 Plans Revealed
Undead Labs has announced 2022 development plans for State of Decay 2. First of all, the Infestation system, which enables zombies to take control of buildings, will be heavily improved.
- Development of State of Decay 2 will continue in 2022;
- The Infestation system will be thoroughly reworked - the creators will increase its dynamics and make it much more dangerous for the players;
- The devs also consider enabling players to set up traps.
Currently, State of Decay 2 rarely appears in the newsrooms of gaming websites, but in reality - despite being almost four years old - the game is doing very well. The best proof of the game's good condition is that the developers have revealed their development plans for 2022.
During yesterday's stream Undead Labs announced that it will continue to improve the game according to community's suggestions. The biggest change is expected to be a complete rework of the Infestation system, thanks to which hordes of zombies are ale to take control of buildings. The interface will be completely revamped and will do a better job at explaining the rules of this mechanic and the risks involved.
Infestations will also become much more dangerous. Currently this system is very static - its goals are set randomly, and when zombies take over a building, they cease to be an active threat to the environment, as long as we do not try to break into the captured structure. So in practice we can ignore them without much consequence. This will change. Hordes of this type will be able to spawn new groups of undead, thus extending the scope of Infestations towards the player's headquarters. The undead will also gain the ability to conduct sieges and take over human bases.
Moreover, after the changes Infestations will be triggered by living structures called Plague Hearts, so players will get a good incentive to destroy them. Undead Labs is also working on a number of other, smaller changes. Among other things, the studio considers enabling players to set traps.
State of Decay 2 debuted in May 2018 on PC and Xbox One. In turn, in December 2020, the version for Xbox Series X/S was released. The game is also available on Game Pass, both on PC and consoles. Currently, the team at Undead Labs is working on the third part of the series. However, we do not know when it will be released.
