The official launch of Starfield ist two days ahead, but owners of the premium edition have started playing already on September 1. Thanks to this, videos with visual comparisons of different versions of the game have appeared online.

The following videos may contain mild spoilers.

Several interesting things emerge from the videos:

  1. First of all, it is surprising how well the Xbox Series S manages. The console generates a high level of detail while maintaining a constant 30 frames per second at most moments. Drops are occasional and minor.
  2. On both the Xbox Series X and Series S, the game offers only one graphics mode running at 30 fps. On both consoles Starfield uses FSR technology. On the Xbox Series S, it generates a 1440p image from a 900p source. On the Xbox Series X, on the other hand, the image is displayed in 2160p from 1440p.
  3. The PC version looks the best, of course, but the console releases are not far behind. The Xbox Series S footage shows that, compared to the Xbox Series X, details are generated at smaller distances. You can also see simplified terrain, inferior textures and weaker effects.
  4. The PC release towers over the one for Xbox Series X in such elements as shadows, anisotropic filtering, textures and visual effects, but overall the differences between all three versions are not great.
  5. If your PC has an NVME M2 SSD, you can expect much faster loading times.
  6. The use of FSR is a must on PCs these days. Without this feature, even a PC with a GeForce RTX 4080 card can drop below 30 frames per second when playing on Ultra settings at 4K resolution.

Moreover, the footage shows that the lack of DLSS support is severely troublesome for gamers using Nvidia cards. So we hope that this option will be added in the future. For now, gamers have to cope with the help of mods - the two most important are. Starfield Upscaler and FSRBridge - DLSS.

The official release of Starfield will take place on September 6, which is this Wednesday. The title will at the same time become available on Game Pass - both on PC and Xbox consoles.
