'Starfield Was Made Like This Intentionally'; Todd Howard on Next 5 Years of the Game
When creating Starfield, Bethesda planned to provide the players with a game that „won't die” a few months after release. The developers intend to continually develop their work.
A lot can be said about Bethesda games, but certainly not that they are quickly forgotten. The best example of this is Skyrim, originally released on 2011, which despite the passage of years still attracts a lot of players. According to the assumptions of the creators, the same is to be the case with Starfield.
During a recent conversation that Insomniac Games head Ted Price had with Todd Howard, Bethesda's helmsman revealed that during the development of the space RPG , a key assumption of the team was that it should be a project for years to come..
"It's a game that was intentionally created to be playable for a long time. One of the things we learned from our previous games - from Skyrim, Fallout - is that people want to play them for a very long time," the developer explained.
The trick, however, is to prepare the game in such a way that it can boast such longevity. So Bethesda made deep analyses of how players might approach Starfield even five years from now.
"It's also a question of how Starfield will look like in three months. What will it look like in six months, one year, two years, three years, four years, five years? We have learned that it will happen, so let's be ready for it, make the most of it and accept it. That's what we're doing both here and with our modding community. We have learned a lot. We've prepared a good ground to build a game for everyone," he added.
A promising future
There's no doubt that the key to the game's longevity is mostly mods developed by the community. Bethesda also realizes this, which is why next year Starfield is expected to receive official modding tools.
Along the way, the game will receive many updates, introducing, among other things, support for DLSS technology, a field of view (FoV) slider, or brightness and contrast controls. In addition, in the unspecified future Starfield will get a story expansion called Shattered Space (free for purchasers of the more expensive edition of the game).
