Starfield Allegedly Delayed to Avoid the Fate of Cyberpunk 2077
Contrary to earlier announcements, Starfield will not debut in the first half of this year. The decision to delay the release was to have been made by Bethesda to avoid the situation that befell Cyberpunk 2077.
The long-awaited Starfield has finally received an official release date. Contrary to earlier rumors, Bethesda's new game will not debut in the first half of this year, but - if all goes according to plan - on September 6.
Caution on the part of the developers, however, is understandable. The pressure on them is immense - they definitely don't want to betray the player expectations, even if it were to involve further delays.
To avoid sharing the fate of Cyberpunk 2077
The matter was analyzed by Jordan Middler, a journalist for VGC. During an editorial podcast, he referred to the game's September release. According to the information in his possession Microsoft's executives, having full confidence in Bethesda, decided to give the developers a free hand in setting Starfield's release date. This is to help avoid a situation in which the game would be released too early and will be full of shortcomings, as was the case with Cyberpunk 2077.
"The date has always been fluid, it's always been up to Bethesda and Todd Howard to come to them [Xbox executives - ed. note] and say, "Okay, let's do this." They are fully aware that they cannot create another Cyberpunk. This can't happen again, especially with Bethesda's reputation, which is said to be that their games are usually broken at launch," Middler said.
If Microsoft is indeed not putting pressure on Bethesda, one can only rejoice and hope that the developers' meticulous approach to fine-tuning will have the desired effect.
Starfield will be released on September 6 and will be available on PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles. A presentation is scheduled for June 11, where we will most likely see new footage from the game.
