The developer Eric Barone, known as ConcernedApe, keeps fans updated about development of Stardew Valley on his X (formerly Twitter) account. Over the days leading up to the PC release of the latest patch, he’s been sharing interesting patch notes and introducing new features, building up the hype. It was also on X that ConcernedApe referenced the console and mobile release for update 1.6:
Barone gave no specific date for Stardew Valley 1.6 on consoles, only said that it would follow the PC version “as soon as possible”. What could this mean, realistically? Let’s look at the release dates for Patch 1.5 for reference.
Stardew Valley 1.5 came out on PC in December 2020, then on consoles in February 2021. The mobile players had to wait until January 2023. That means the console release took about two months.
However, we can’t say for sure that bringing 1.6 to Switch, Xbox, PS5 and PS4 will take the same amount of time. If you’re curious, you can compare the patch notes for versions 1.5 and 1.6. Both updates introduced major changes, but we don’t know how difficult it will be to port new content in this case. There might be other factors in play, as well. We shouldn’t forget that Stardew Valley is a passion project of solo creator, which naturally makes each challenge of development take longer.
