Star Wars: Battlefront Remaster Was Abysmal, So Fans Made Their Own
The highly anticipated modification Star Wars: Battlefront - Anniversary Edition, which refreshes the classic 2004 shooter, has been released.
Released in March of this year, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection turned out to be a huge disappointment. Today - six months after its release - the game has a mere 21% positive reviews on Steam, which the service categorizes as “mostly negative.”
Fortunately, gamers don't have to settle for the re-release prepared by Aspyr studio, as they can go back to the original Star Wars: Battlefront from 2004 and refresh this classic on their own with the new modification Star Wars: Battlefront - Anniversary Edition. It was built on the foundations of an older mod known as Star Wars: Battlefront Legacy Edition.
Star Wars: Battlefront - Anniversary Edition effectively transforms the game into an unofficial remaster. The mod improves the graphics and many gameplay elements and brings most of the maps from the 2005-released sequel, Star Wars: Battlefront II. So in practice, we get something similar in concept to Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, but the fan-made version is better than what Aspyr studio spit out in March.

Besides refreshing the graphics and converting the sequel maps, the authors have improved the gameplay. First of all, the class system has been changed. Generally, the same types of them have been retained, but they are much more varied regarding weapons and equipment. A sizable set of new weapon types was also introduced, and most technical bugs were removed.
The first version (1.0) of Star Wars: Battlefront - Anniversary Edition debuted on Tuesday, and the 1.1 update was released a day later. The authors are still working on conversions of several missing maps from SWBF2 (Geonosis, Kamino, Kashyyyk, and two space maps), which will be released as a mod add-on in some time.
It should be noted that due to changes made by Aspyr studio, the modification is not compatible with Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection. So you will need the original version of Star Wars: Battlefront to play - either the boxed version or the digital edition you can buy on Steam and GOG.com.
