Star Ocean: The Second Story R, a revamped version of a classic 32-bit jRPG, has been announced.
Square Enix has announced Star Ocean: The Second Story R, a remake of the classic jRPG released on the first PlayStation in 1999.
- The game is headed for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Switch.
- The release is scheduled for November 2, this year.
- The PC release will be sold on Steam. The PS5 and PS4 versions are available on PS Store. Pre-orders for the Switch edition have not yet started.
The remake will offer 2.5D visuals, which will combine pixel-art 2D characters and locations made in 3D. We will get a remastered soundtrack and new character sprites, created by an artist known to fans of the series, Yukihiro Kajimoto. In addition, all story cutscenes will receive dubbing and we will be able to choose whether we want to listen to English or Japanese voices. The developers also promise improved gameplay, matching modern standards of the jRPG genre.
Players will be able to choose one of two main characters (Claude or Rene), which will affect the course of the story and the allies recruited. Relationships with team members will be developed through a private action system, which will also unlock different endings.
