Standalone Red Dead Online Launches Among Controversy
From now on, we will be able to buy the online mode of Red Dead Redemption 2 as a separate game. However, Rockstar has made some changes to RDO, to which the players react with outrage.
From now on, even if we don't have Red Dead Redemption 2 and we don't plan to learn the story of Arthur Morgan, we will be able to experience everything Red Dead Online offers, which equal to probably the most elaborate cowboy multiplayer game of all time. Price? Relatively low: just $4.99. This special offer that will last until February 15, 2021 - then the cost of Red Dead Online will jump to $19.99. Please note that to play on consoles we will still need appropriate subscriptions - PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold.
The standalone version of Red Dead Online offers access to all the content and all add-ons that have come out so far. It will take up a total of 123 GB on our hard drive. Interestingly, players who, having familiarized themselves with multi, find that they would like to learn thestory of Red Dead Redemption 2, will be able to unlock the story mode for an additional fee.
However, there is a small problem - on the occasion of the launch of the standalone version, Rockstar decided to introduce some changes to Red Dead Online. First of all, the devs reworked daily challenges. So far, the rewards for their completion increased for several weeks if the player didn't miss a single day, and then they remained at a constant high level as long as the "streak" lasted. Some players have therefore imposed discipline on themselves and logged in every day for months to complete the task and receive the increased prizes, reaching up to 300-400 days in a row.
Now, Rockstar has kindly announced that with the release of the standalone version of RDO, the maximum "streak" will be reduced to just 28 days, and, what's worse, after that we will have to start from the beginning. As a reward, players will have to settle for bonus dollars and one Treasure Map. This means that the efforts of many of the most ardent fans were in vain. The outrage is all the greater because the creators of Red Dead Online do not like to reward players while strongly advertising microtransactions. Resetting the daily challenges streak is seen as yet another pressure on players who stubbornly refuse to reach for their wallets. Is the price really just $4.99 then? Yes, but be prepared that Rockstar counts on much more of your money.
