Sony Develops New VR Goggles; Not Necessarily for PS5
On Sony's Japanese website there was an advertisement for an engineer constructing VR goggles. However, it was not posted by the R&D department of PlayStation, which may suggest that the device will not be suitable for PS5.
Sony is most likely working on new VR device. On the Japanese website of the company (via UploadVR) there is an advertisement for engineers with experience in designing VR goggles. Interestingly, it was not published by the Sony Interactive Entertainment, responsible for the development of PlayStation, but by Sony Corporation. This may suggest that the device will have a wider use than the PSVR and will not necessarily be for the PS5.
You can also read out some of the details associated with the job ad. The candidate will work in a 15-person team, whose task is, among others, to develop a lightweight case, lenses and heat dissipation system. The team has 5 years to complete the whole project. This means that we will have to wait at least until 2025 for the effects of their work.
If this is the only VR goggle project that Sony is working on, it means that the PS5 may not get its own virtual reality accessory or simply use the existing PSVR goggles.
