Skyrim Together - Fan-Funded Mod May Not be Completed
Modders working on the Skyrim Together project - which enriches Bethesda's classic title with a multiplayer mode - may never finish working on their work. This modification is financed by community donations.
Skyrim Together, the popular game mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim enriching the classic production with a multiplayer mode, may never be completed. In response to a fan's question, asked in the mods Reddit section, the mod's developer Maxgriot, said that the team does not owe the community anything, and works on the project when they feel like it. The conversation was removed by a moderator, but PCGamesN managed to record it before that.
“The community has been so toxic we even considered saying ‘f**k it’ and [giving] up, or [continuing] but never [releasing] anything to the public. We are making this for ourselves because we think it’s a very fun project to work on and we learn a ton doing this,” wrote Maxgriot.
In a normal situation such a statement would be nothing strange - after all, we are talking about a free, fan-made modification, not a paid game or an expansion developed by original developers. The problem, however, is that Skyrim Together is a community-funded mod. Creators use Patreon, each month receiving more than 18 thousand dollars from people interested in the fate of the project. In the past, this sum was even higher - even twice as much. Can there still be no responsibility whatsoever in such a situation?
We heard about Skyrim Together for the first time in October 2017, when the creators presented footage from the game. Works on the modification are still in progress - at the end of January this year its closed beta-tests took place. Unfortunately, the situation discussed here is not the first controversy associated with mods. Some time ago it turned out that developers illegally used fragments of code from another modification - Skyrim Script Extender. The team apologized and assured that they would remove the fruits of someone else's work from the project before it was made available.
It is worth noting that Skyrim Together is not the only project adding a multiplayer mode to the fifth part of The Elder Scrolls series. >a target='_blank' href="https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/67038/?">Tamriel Online has a similar premise.
