Leak: Skull & Bones Has New Developer
According to an anonymous source, the upcoming pirate game Skull & Bones turned out to be a huge failure. Therefore, Ubisoft commissioned a new studio to finish the title within the next year.
Skull & Bones is, like Beyond Good & Evil 2, one of the few Ubisoft games that, after the hyped announcements a few years ago, seems completely forgotten. This fact is surprising, especially since Ubisoft usually releases its titles with great regularity and without much delay. The last time we heard about multiplayer pirate sandbox was in July last year, when the creators confirmed that it underwent a metamorphosis and gained a new direction, inspired by Fortnite.
If we believe the anonymous post on Reddit, whose author claims to be associated with the developer, Skull & Bones has experienced a complete metamorphosis several times already, which finally exhausted the patience of Ubisoft's bosses. It's worth mentioning that the first rumors about this appeared a year ago. For four years the game was developed by the company's internal studio based in Singapore. Despite their efforts, the team has not been able so far to produce anything that would be suitable for release.
Promptly, the French company decided to move all work on Skull & Bones to Montreal, where one of its main and most important development studios is located. Anon points out that the Canadian developers face a big challenge, though. They will be forced to build a playable game virtually from scratch, based only on existing and partially ready elements, such as 3D models.
What's more, they have to do it in a very short time. Ubisoft had to sign a contract with the Singaporean government, which requires it to release the game within a certain time, probably by 2022 or 2023. Anon does not know what exactly was in the documents, but we can suspect that Singapore offered the French grants for the creation of jobs and attractive tax discounts.
To sum up. According to the anonymous source, despite the fact that Skull & Bones was announced in 2017, the real work on the game, which we will see in a dozen months, will not last more than a year. This means that players should expect an unpolished and bug-ridden game that was released just to fulfill prior commitments.
