Skull and Bones Curse Continues; Another Key Dev Leaves the Studio
Ubisoft has parted ways with another important employee who was responsible for the development of Skull and Bones. In addition, the pirate title still has no set release date, even internally.
Skull and Bones is sailing through troubled waters. Elizabeth Pellen, who was the third creative director involved in the development of the pirate game, has left the team. As reported by Kotaku editors, her work at Ubisoft's Singapore branch has ended prematurely.
Skull and Bones' third creative director departs
Let's note that Elizabeth Pellen was associated with the pirate game since 2018 and was primarily responsible for a major redesign of the entire project. In the past, the developer also created the script for the shooter XIII from 2003, which she also directed.
"Five years ago, Elisabeth Pellen went to Ubisoft Singapore with the mission to develop a new creative direction for Skull and Bones. She succeeded, and the game's development team is now realizing that vision to provide our players with a unique naval action RPG," Ubisoft's spokesperson said.
It has been confirmed that Pellen will remain in Singapore until the end of this year, but it is unclear what tasks will be assigned to her.
Skull and Bones - release date still unknown
According to Kotaku's information Skull and Bones still has no internally set release date, although the game is expected to be released this fiscal year (by the end of March 2024). Recall that at the end of August the game had its first closed beta tests on PC. The results of this test were also touched upon by a spokesman for the French studio commenting on Pellan's departure.
"The positive feedback received during the closed beta highlights the invaluable work done by Elizabeth and the entire team. We are now focused on providing players with the best possible experience, taking into account their feedback, and continuing to improve the game."
It is worth noting that Ubisoft's Singapore branch is currently having problems related to the workplace. Organizations and employees accuse managers of harassment and unfair treatment within the company.
Skull and Bones is expected to cost $70 at the time of its debut. The game will hit PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
