Shogun TV series filming locations. Where was it filmed?
Shogun impresses viewers with its filming locations. Here's where this well-received production was filmed.
Shogun, the highly anticipated FX series, debuted on Hulu with fantastic episodes. The production is gathering brilliant reviews from both critics and viewers. Set in feudal Japan, the series is called a revelation and a masterpiece, and audiences who have already watched the first episodes are certainly wondering where this impressive spectacle was filmed. We come with the answer.
Shogun TV series filming locations
Shogun is a production whose plot was inspired by real events from Japanese history. So it's no surprise that many scenes were shot in Japan. Interestingly, it was originally planned for the series to be entirely filmed in Asia, but these plans were thwarted by pandemic-related delays. It was decided, therefore, that filming would also take place in other locations, across different continents.
As reported by Cinemaholic, Canada is the second country where the series was filmed. Here, most of the Shogun scenes were created. The creators looked for locations that would resemble Japan. And they succeeded. On the western coast of Vancouver Island, they found Ucluelet. Wya Point Beach is a beautifully located place, captivating with its beaches and dramatic coastlines. It was here that the opening sequence of the series was filmed.
We wanted to open the show with the beautiful scenery of the Wya Point Beach in Ucluelet. It's a very beautiful place. We have a lot of cast and crew from Japan that were quite fascinated and blown away by the resemblance of that spot to Japan – revealed producer Erin Smith.
Another location in Canada was Port Moody. Here, too, many scenes were filmed in a "Japanese" set built for the series.
Although most of the series was filmed in Canada and Japan, part of the crew also moved to Europe to shoot a certain horse-riding sequence. It was in London that scenes featuring Hiroyuki Sanada (the series' Lord Yoshii Toranaga) were filmed.
