Shadow Tactics and Desperados III Devs Announce New Pirate Game
The developers of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Desperados III have announced a new game. It will be a pirate tactical RTS called Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew. The title was presented in a trailer and gameplay video.
Mimimi Games quite unexpectedly announced a new game. The developer seems to have taken a liking to the real-time tactical strategy genre, as after Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Desperados III the team has undertaken work on another production of this type. It is titled Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew and will be released in 2023 on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5 and XSX/S. You can watch the first trailer below.
As the name suggests, the game will go for pirate vibes. Its action is set in the Lost Caribbean - the fictional equivalent of the real islands, invented to present an alternative version of the history of the Golden Age of Piracy.
Afflicted by the curse of lost souls, the archipelago is controlled by the Inquisition, fighting pirates - such as the player's character, the cursed pirate Afia. In order to oppose it, one must obtain a certain artifact - the treasure of the legendary Captain Mordecai - infiltrating the organization's strongholds along the way. This will be helped by the crew, which will be resurrected thanks to the legendary black pearls. These, however, must first be found.
There are to be 8 companions in total. Each of them will be a playable character, with their own story, tasks and skills. Before the next missions, we will come to choose the composition of the party with which we will go into action. Proper use of the crew's strengths will be the key to victory.
In the latter we will also be helped by the Red Marley - a ghost ship with a soul. On its board we will traverse the sea waters and reach tropical beaches and pirate slums. The developers boast about handcrafting each of the available islands and describe them as separate, diverse and full of surprises sandboxes.
However, that's not all - Red Marley will enable the players to manipulate time. For example: we will stop its passage to consider the next steps during the clash or set the command queue.
Similar to Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun or Desperados III, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew will offer exclusively a single-player mode, in which a heavy emphasis will be placed on stealth. However, there will be no shortage of opportunities for slightly more open action. Examples of different approaches are presented in the gameplay video below.
It is worth adding that Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew will be the first game by Mimimi Games that the studio will publish independently. In the past, the publishers of its works were THQ Nordic (Desperados III), Daedalic Entertainment (Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun) and Unity Games (The Last Tinker: City of Colors). So it can be said that this is a big step for this relatively small developer.
