Video Game Based on Stanislaw Lem's Works is Being Developed
Starward Industries has purchased license rights to one of the most important books by Polish SF writer Stanislaw Lem. The game will be an FPP adventure game and will be release on PC, PS4 and XOne.
After the Witcher trilogy, based on a book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, the time has come for a game based on the works of another Polish author, namely Stanislaw Lem, a renowned science fiction specialist. His literary output has attracted the interest of Starward Industries, which intends to create a game based on one of his most popular books.
It was not disclosed which of the novels was the subject of the deal, but the description given by the developer may provide a clue. The plot will focus on a group of astronauts on a space research mission. Their investigation will turn into a fight for survival. The title will be an FPP adventure game , which will touch on rather serious topics - it will try to answer the question about "mankind's place in the universe". There is much to suggest that the book in question is Solaris - its quintessence was that people do not travel into space in search of foreign civilizations, but to discover mirror reflections of humanity.
The first of Starward Industries' games is to reflect the atmosphere of Lem's works - through the retro-futuristic graphic design (built on Unreal Engine 4) as well as proper music, psychological features of the characters and dialogues. The uniqueness of the game is to come from a balance of entertainment, art and an intriguing story, designed exclusively for a single player.
While this is Starward Industries' first experience in gamedev, the team is comprised of experienced developers. Marek Markuszewski (former senior producer in CD Projekt RED) is the CEO and project manager, and the rest of the people responsible for design worked in such well-known studios as Reality Pump, Bloober Team, CD Projekt RED and Techland.
The developer intends to benefit not only from the experience of its employees but also from the help of the fan community. The aim is to involve the players in the development of the project from the very beginning. Therefore, it is almost certain that the title will appear in Steam Early Access. This idea will be implemented for each subsequent game, as the company wants to work in the GDaaS model (Game Development as a Service).
We already know that the debut work from Starward Industries will be released on all major important platforms: PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but we still have to wait for the official release date.
