Yesterday marked the release of Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem, a first-person shooter and a standalone expansion for Serious Sam 4. The gameplay hasn't changed and it's still a brutal FPS in which we eliminate hordes of approaching enemies. This time developers from Croteam in cooperation with Timelock Studio decided to set the action on Siberia.
We can already find the first reviews of Siberian Mayhem online. They are mostly positive. The average score on OpenCritic is 73/100.

Reviewers emphasize that in the game we will find everything for which players liked the basic version of Serious Sam 4, only with a few minor differences. Apart from the new scenery we received a set of new guns and enemies. However, it's still the same, mindless destruction and carnage, which can be seen as both a pro and a con. There's also more of the running and gunning familiar from previous installments. The challenging difficulty level is also praised.
The downsides include the game's performance and below average optimization, as a result of which the frame rate can drop noticeably. The game is also not free of bugs, which means that we have a repeat of what the fourth installment offerd at launch. The visuals were also attacked - according to one reviewer, the game looks like it is 10 years old.
Although the opinions are divided, the new expansion will certainly appeal to fans of the series. After all, it's more of what Serious Sam does best - blasting and more blasting. The expansion's price is sensible and it doesn't need the base game to work, which is an added incentive to try the game out for yourself.
Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem is available exclusively on PC. You can buy it on Steam and GOG for around $20.
