SCP: Pandemic is a New SWAT 4-style Paranormal Shooter
A game from the SCP Foundation universe is being developed as an ambitious project on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter.com. SCP: Pandemic will be a co-op horror SWAT 4-like tactical shooter.
If you're no stranger to the SCP Foundation universe, you'll certainly be interested in a very ambitious project, which started on July 18 on Kickstarter and will run for four more days. We're talking about SCP: Pandemic, a co-op horror tactical shooter created by enthusiasts from Affray Interactive. At the moment, 1004 people have supported the fundraiser. The amount which has been raised is $74,224, while the creators' goal is $80,000. Early access to the game on Steam is scheduled for the end of this year (if the campaign is successful).
Those interested in supporting the creators have quite a lot of room for maneuver, as the available donation amounts start from about $5 and end up at almost $500. However those willing to test the game in its current state must donate at least $20 for the "Infected" package, which in addition to a copy of the title on Steam offers a Peacekeeper uniform and a mention with a thank you in the "Creators" section.
Although SCP: Pandemic is currently in alpha, its development stage looks quite advanced. Created on Unreal Engine 4.26, the production looks and sounds good and the atmosphere fits the world perfectly. The game already has a lot of mechanics and content, including tactical gadgets for infiltrating buildings like in SWAT 4. There are also several story-driven scenarios, in which the player completes specific objectives, trying to stop the advancing forces of monsters that have escaped or so far have not been captured by the foundation.
The title also received a PvPvE mode, in which two enemy teams of players fight each other in an attempt to destroy or defend the nuclear reactor that powers vital parts of the research facility. In addition, many test subjects have broke out of their isolation rooms during the assault and must also be faced by both teams. Currently, there is also a co-op module in the game, where up to four players explore Area 12, fighting off large hordes of undead with limited resources.
What exactly is SCP Foundation? As I mentioned at the beginning, it's a literary universe that collects a variety of stories about objects and creatures of unknown origin - often very unusual, possessing skills unattainable for human or powers that break the laws of physics. Mostly, however, these are paranormal creatures, usually bloodthirsty and threatening humanity. That is why the Secure.Contain.Protect Foundation was established, which catches, secures and investigates such cases all over the world, and then tries to dispose of the most dangerous objects or use their abilities for other purposes.
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg, because the universe is really very expansive and new novels and creatures are created on a daily basis. In some ways, the world of SCP Foundation resembles the Federal Audit Office, which appears in Control by Remedy Entertainment. More information can be found on the official Kickstarter page of SCP: Pandemic.
