Rockstar May Not Yet Know If It Will Delay GTA 6. Former Series Dev Believes Take-Two Won't Force Premature Release
Obbe Vermeij has spoken out again about Grand Theft Auto 6. This time, the former Rockstar Games employee said that the developer would not be aware of a possible delay until the first half of 2025.
Rockstar Games may still be unaware of a potential delay for Grand Theft Auto 6. This is the opinion of Obbe Vermeij, who commented on the recent confusion surrounding the alleged postponement of the release of this highly anticipated game to 2026.
These rumors were somewhat denied after investigations conducted by industry journalists. Nevertheless, it was emphasized that a delay of GTA 6 is possible, but nothing is known about it at the moment.
Obbe Vermeij, who worked at Rockstar Games on titles such as GTA 3 and GTA: Vice City, shares a similar opinion. In his opinion, the game team may find out about the release date being postponed no earlier than around May 2025. Grand Theft Auto 4 faced a similar situation – the title was delayed by about 4 months before the planned release date (via X).
The ex-employee of Rockstar also doubts that Take-Two Interactive could compel the studio to launch GTA 6 in 2025. The developer is to have a significant amount of autonomy and the publisher allows the studio to "make its own decisions."
Moreover, the company's CEO Strauss Zelnick emphasized that Rockstar Games strives for "perfection." Releasing a game prematurely that the entire industry has been waiting for over 10 years would be a real blow to Take-Two, as gamers would be unlikely to forgive the developers if GTA 6 were to launch at a similar level as the definitive remaster trilogy.
Therefore, as Vermeij also claims, the sixth installment won't be released until Rockstar Games is "100% satisfied" with the state of the game.
On a side note: Vermeij is also sure that Grand Theft Auto 6 will sell for over a decade. That's easy to predict because the previous installment of the series, which still frequently appears on bestseller lists, did exactly that.
The release of GTA 6 is expected to take place in 2025. The game will first be released on PS5 and XSX/S consoles.
