Robots Clean, Pour Wine And Act as Pets on CES 2021
At this year's CES 2021, there were plenty of revolutionary technologies, gadgets, as well as robots that can certainly make life more convenient. Here are some machines that will assist us in daily chores.
Surely most of us have wondered what life would be like if basic errands - such as cooking, shopping and cleaning - were done for us by robots. It might seem that we'll have to wait a bit longer to have a mechanical helper, but at CES 2021 we found out that a future full of domesticated robots isn't that far off. Here are some of the machines of the future whose prototypes appeared at this year's event:
Handy Bot
We start with Samsung's proposal. The Handy bot with its grasping arm and pair of cameras will help you load the dishwasher, set the table, or pour wine during a relaxing evening. The creators claim that its artificial intelligence enables it to recognize the weight, shape, and material of objects to effortlessly pick up any item.
Care Bot
Another assistant that improves our everyday life - Care bot - will take care of our health; it will remind you to be physically active, or point out if you are working too long. It will also help in the office, as it will be able to start a conference call and display it on a handy screen.
Jetbot 90 AI+ vacuum cleaner
Roomba has nothing on this bot! Jetbot effectively finds its path thanks to 3D sensors. It will recognise cables and small objects to clean every space and surface, even the tightest nooks, as accurately as possible, and analyse which thing is rubbish that needs to be vacuumed and which isn't. It can also serve as a mobile home monitoring robot.
Humanoid robot Reachy
A definite leap into the future with this guy. Presented last year, Reachy is a robot capable of practically everything, thanks to its open source code we can program the robot's skills ourselves. This year its capabilities have been further expanded, because (only if you can spend 17,000 dollars) you will be able to control it directly using VR goggles.
LG CLOi UVC robot for disinfecting surfaces
Another robot that will prove useful not only at home, but also in many businesses such as hospitality or catering, is LG's CLOi family product, equipped on both sides with UV-C ultraviolet light sources, using which it disinfects surfaces, precisely moving around the room and intelligently detecting objects that need protection.
DARS, the Taiwanese robot with "human" arms
DARS (Dual Arm Robot System) is designed to perform a variety of tasks and assist humans. The precision and dexterity of its limbs enable it to use any tool and even play the piano. Its purpose is mainly to be used in production or work in a dangerous environments, but I think that many people would find use for it in their own homes.
MOFLIN - a robot mascot to cuddle
And finally something very cute, but also innovative. Moflin is a pet robot that can develop its emotional intelligence, which can evolve like in real animals. The robo-pet also has a unique personality and behavior pattern, making its actions distinct from popular domestic furballs. If stroking and cuddling this fluffy robot doesn't convince you, keep in mind that it certainly won't miss the litter!
As you can see, the future may be dominated by a variety of mechanical friends who will not only accompany us in our daily chores, but also effectively assist in them, or even replace us when we are busy with something else. Although these are only prototypes and their prices are quite high, we can be sure that one day everyone will be able to afford the help or company of a domesticated robot.
