RiME Dev Believes in Stadia: „Some Features Will Blow Your Mind”
Raul Rubio, CEO of Tequila Works, responsible for such titles as RiME and Gylt, believes that one day we'll be wondering why we didn't believe in video game streaming. In his opinion, some of the features to be offered by Google Stadia in the future will be really impressive.
Raul Rubio, head of Tequila Works, the studio responsible for RiME, recently gave an interview to GamesIndustry.biz. One of the topics of the conversation was Googla Stadia and video game streaming in general. According to the creator, this solution is now at the same level of development as Steam at the beginning of its activity.
"This is my personal opinion, but this is like the early days of Steam in a sense that this is when people were complaining that it took too long to download, and then the download would stop and people were [complaining] the price was exactly the same as a boxed game."
It's going to get better. In fact, one day when we look back, people will wonder why people were questioning streaming at all. I'm not talking about Stadia specifically. I'm talking about streaming in general," said Rubio.
The developer believes that caution with the Stadia is perfectly natural. However, he adds that we shouldn't give up on this platform yet, because in the future it will have some really amazing features.
"My view is subjective of course, it cannot be objective because I have been inside, and I know there are many features that are super cool that are not active yet. So let's have this conversation in one year I guess.
People are totally right to be wary. It's a new technology; historically streaming solutions didn't work. I think it's the time, in a sense, in that the technology is there and the audience is there, and to be honest the content wars are here...
Google Stadia has a lot of potential, it hasn't reached its full potential yet. I think that was never the idea with this small soft launch. I know that they are working to make it better every day. I know it's going to get better, because there are a few features that are going to blow people's minds," added the developer.
Emphasizing the subjectivity of Raul Rubio's opinion is important because he is not impartial to the discussion - his studio created the first (and so far the only) exclusive title for Stadia, that is Gylt, so he has an interest in the platform's success. Early opinions about Google's service are not very positive - it is criticized for technical issues and lack of many announced features. There are also many indications that the platform has not been warmly welcomed by the players.
