Red Dead Redemption 2 - Hardware Requirements
Rockstar Games revealed the official hardware requirements of the PC version of RDR 2. The example of GTA V gave hope that the scaling to the hardware will be at a good level and it seems that there was nothing to be afraid of. Hardware configurations given in Rockstar Games Launcher application are lower than expected.
Speculations regarding the estimated hardware requirements of Red Dead Redemption 2 are over. Rockstar Games decided not to keep the players in suspense any longer and, as announced, released today details about the PC version of RDR 2. For most of them probably the most important information was the official hardware requirements that have just appeared in Rockstar Games Launcher and look like this:
Minimum hardware requirements
- OS: Windows 7 with SP1
- CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-6300
- RAM: 8 GB
- GPU: GeForce GTX 770 with 2 GB of memory or Radeon R9 280 with 3 GB
- HDD space: 150 GB of free space
Recommended hardware requirements
- OS: Windows 10 (version 1803)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
- RAM: 12 GB
- GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB of memory or Radeon RX 480 with 4 GB
- HDD space: 150 GB of free space
The game's hardware requirements seem to be surprisingly low in comparison to the visuals offered by the game, which on the PC will look even better than on consoles. RDR 2 is one of the most beautiful games of this generation. Compared to previous Rockstar titles, many elements are at a much higher level: richer objects, more detailed character models, much more advanced shading and lighting systems and improved drawing range.
The requirements are, of course, higher than those for the older version of GTA V's RAGE engine, but we expected a greater growth (the only surprise is the required disk space - 150 GB is probably a new industry record, isn't it?). Although you might have expected good scalability, because probably the PC version will provide numerous configuration options, thanks to which you will be able to enjoy relatively smooth gameplay and relatively good image quality also on weaker hardware configurations. And that's exactly what the official hardware requirements suggest. Of course, official specs are one side and reality is another, but it will only be verified by performance tests when the game will be available.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a continuation of Rockstar's hit from 2010, which takes place before the events presented in the first installment. The main character of the story is a man named Arthur Morgan, a member of Dutch van der Linde's gang. This is a multithreaded open-world adventure game, which lasts for several dozen hours of gameplay. And if that's not enough for you, you can try your hand at the constantly developing online mode - Red Dead Online.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was released on October 26, 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version will be released one year after the original release, on November 5 (on Steam in December).
At the moment, the PC version can be ordered only in digital form, by Rockstar Games Launcher. Two editions are available - Special Edition and Ultimate Edition.
