RDR Fans Express Concerns Over Potential Technical Issues in PC Port; Its System Requirements Are Higher Than Those of RDR2

Yesterday's announcement of the PC port of Red Dead Redemption certainly delighted many tincan users who, after fourteen years, will be able to get to know this iconic Western sandbox, which is also a chronological continuation of the story told in Red Dead Redemption 2. However, after a moment of euphoria, the first fears appeared. All because of the game's hardware requirements published on Steam.

Hardware requirements raise concerns

As it turns out, they are in some respects higher than in the case of Red Dead Redemption 2. For example, when it comes to the GPU, to play the second game in a relatively satisfactory way, the GeForce GTX 770 with 2 GB of VRAM is enough, while the first RDR needs the GeForce GTX 960, which is two years newer. You can see the comparison of requirements on the screenshots below.

As Reddit users point out, the differences may be due to two things. First of all, Red Dead Redemption 2 does not run very well on hardware with parameters marked as "minimum", so Rockstar decided to evaluate the hardware requirements to make sure that the game runs smoothly, even if with severely limited visual effects. Secondly, it is not excluded that the port has to create an emulated console environment on the PC, which, as is commonly known, uses additional computer resources.

The upside for many, however, may be that Red Dead Redemption will not be protected by DENUVO. So at least this software will not additionally burden PCs.

The premiere is coming soon

Either way, concerns about a poor PC port of Red Dead Redemption are real at the moment. Will they ultimately prove to be justified? We will learn the answer to this question on October 29, when the 2010 cowboy game from Rockstar will officially appear on personal computers.
