Today, Ubisoft announced the release date for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege X, a huge free update to the popular tactical FPS. The announcement came today as part of the Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase which was streamed live and held in-person in Atlanta, Georgia. One of the major updates, and there are many, is the implementation of a new 6v6 permanent mode called Dual Front. Rainbow Six Siege X is planned to launch on June 10th, 2025, but there is a chance you can get into the closed beta to start playing today until March 19th.

Rainbow Six Siege X release date announced with new game mode and more

This will be the biggest expansion in the game’s history, and with this December being the game’s tenth anniversary, it’s a fitting time for it. Ubisoft has been reluctant to call this a sequel, and while this improves the game in nearly every way, it does feel more like a refresh than a true sequel. This update will improve the game’s audio design, giving players more information to work with in tense situations and will include visual updates for several maps. The full stream is over two hours long, but you can watch a shorter video that breaks down the new mode and other changes as well.

Dual Front, the new 6v6 permanent mode introduced in Rainbow Six Siege X, comes with a new map designed specifically for this new way to play. The map is divided into three corridors, zones that belong to each team, with a neutral ground in the middle. Each team has an extra player, 6 instead of 5, and players can swap characters with unlimited respawns to adjust their strategy on the fly. Teams achieve victory by attacking three consecutive targets, setting up a device to sabotage and defending the area until it’s complete. Do this three times at three consecutive locations to win it for your team. But watch out for the other team, who’s trying to do the same thing. This creates an interesting balance of offense and defense that separates it from the typical Siege gameplay.

Rainbow Six Siege X will also add new gameplay elements across the entire game. Fire extinguishers will now puff into a cloud of obscuring smoke. Red pipes will leak and then explode, temporarily covering the surrounding area in dangerous flames. Then there is the new repelling mechanics. When hanging from the roof, for example, players will be able to move around the corner of the building, giving more flexibility and maneuverability.

The closed beta for Rainbow Six Siege X is happening now until March 19th. In order to join, you’ll need to link your Ubisoft account with a Twitch account and watch a stream that is dropping access codes. A code will arrive in the email associated with the accounts and you’ll be able to pick your platform from PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
