PS5 Show Still on Schedule, Despite Concerns About Situation in USA

Some PlayStation fans are concerned that the presentation of PS5 games will not take place on schedule due to the riots that are taking place in the USA. A tweet published by Sony's Shuhei Yoshida suggests the event will go ahead as planned, but the company hasn't confirmed anything ultimately.

Will Sony's presentation on Thursday take place?

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Riots are taking place in the U.S., in connection with the death of George Floyd, who was strangled by a policeman;
  2. Some gamers are worried that Sony may postpone the presentation of PS5 games for this reason;
  3. The company hasn't reported any delays;
  4. Shuhei Yoshida even posted a Twitter post that suggests (but does not confirm) that the event will go ahead as planned.

As you probably know, Sony has scheduled a much-awaited presentation PlayStation 5 game lineup this Thursday (June 4). Unfortunately, as the coronavirus has proven, it is sometimes the case that global events spoil the plans of big corporations. Some players fear that the riots that are taking place in the US may lead to a postponement of the event. On Reddit there are numerous threads devoted to this matter.

"Hear me out. EA just delayed the trailer and features reveal of a VIDEO GAME due to the events taken place in Minnesota and other parts of the US. That is VERY small compared to what Sony has planned next week;which we can all agree on, the first major news of probably the most anticipated conference so far. With a company like EA pulling the plug on a game reveal, should we anticipate the Sony press conference to be delayed as well?," writes CPowell007.

"They do not lose much on the rescheduling. Potentially they gain much more attention from the press. Major American media will not cover the PS5 now. Personally, I would be surprised if it wasn't delayed," says PolygonMan.

The concern is justified inasmuch as the company has commented on the situation, recognizing that it has a duty to support the protesters.

It is worth noting that a few hours ago Shuhei Yoshida from Sony advised fans how to use the event menu on the PS4 so that the conference can be played automatically. This suggests that the event will not be cancelled, although it is not a direct confirmation - it is worth remembering that communication on social networking sites is often planned some time in advance.

At this point, we can only wait and keep our fingers crossed so that, if there's a delay, it won't be too long.
