PS5 is Doing Great; Record Result for December 2022

The PlayStation 5 has shipped more than 30 million units, with December 2022 proving to be a record month for the console. As a result, the PS5 matched the PS4 in terms of sales in the same period since its launch.

During a recent conference at the CES 2023, Jim Ryan boasted of the excellent sales of the PlayStation 5 console, and we learned that in December it recorded the highest sales in its history.

PlayStation 5 under the Christmas tree? It was a good idea

The information was provided by Jim Ryan at the CES 2023 event, and later published by Sony on Twitter. Ryan summarized PlayStation 5 sales for the period September-December 2022. The stats are exceptionally good: more than 5 million PS5s found buyers in three months, with the highest number in December. As a result sales of the console surpassed the 30 million unit mark worldwide.

During CES 2023 Jim Ryan also mentioned that it will definitely be easier to buy a PS5 in 2023. Of course, this is supposed to be the result of Sony's battle (read: increasing PS5 production) to satisfy the "appetite" of the market. For gamers who unsuccessfully tried to buy Sony's latest console last year, this is good news.

PS5 challenges PS4

Recall that in the third quarter of 2022, Sony sold 3.3 million, and in the second quarter just 2.4 million units of the PS5. For comparison: the PS4 console in the same period (that is, two years after its release) sold about 29 million units. As you can see, the PS5 matches its predecessor in this respect. All that remains is to hope for more games using the full power of this platform.

Below is the recording of Sony's conference at CES 2023.
