Power Rangers Takes After Marvel and Creates a Universe
Hasbro engaged Jonathan Entwistle to create a movie and TV series based on Power Rangers license. The director is to create a common universe that combines these productions.
After the success of Marvel Cinematic Universe some viewers dream of creating similar "cinematic universes" for other brands. Perhaps someone has listened to the prayers of the fans of one of them. Hollywood Reporter reports on Jonathan Entwistle's involvement in creating a movie and TV series based on Power Rangers for Hasbro. We've known about the first of these projects since December 2019, but it has now been confirmed that the director will be responsible for creating a common universe encompassing several productions and, in Entwistle's words, for delivering for both new and existing generations.
“This is an unbelievable opportunity to deliver new Power Rangers to both new and existing generations of awaiting and adoring fans. We’ll bring the spirit of analog into the future, harnessing the action and storytelling that made this brand a success. I look forward to working with eOne and Hasbro. We can't wait to share the Power Rangers with the whole world soon."
Talking about the return of Power Rangers is not entirely true. The series was reminded of itself in 2017 when the film with Dacre Montgomery and Naomi Scott in the lead roles was released. It wasn't a particularly successful work and cost the studios $74 million in losses, but it didn't affect the development of the brand. A year ago a reboot of that moviewas reported, and the 28th season aimed at younger viewers is already being broadcast on TV. It is doubtful that Entwistle's upcoming works are meant for them, especially since the movie from 2017 was already created for slightly older audiences. Co-created by him, I Am Not Okay With This was rated TV-MA in the USA (that is, only for mature viewers), not to mention a particular episode titled End of the F***ing World. How the creator known from such series will change the face of Power Rangers is anyone's guess. For now we are waiting for more information from Hasbro.
