Valve Employees Have an Idea for Portal 3 Just Waiting for Green Light
The writers of the Portal series already have a good idea for the third installment, and they hope to convince the rest of Valve's employees about the project.
Writers of Portal already have an idea for the next installment, although unfortunately they are not able to promise that something tangible will come out of it.
- These screenwriters are Erik Wolpaw and Jay Pinkerton. The former has worked on both installments of the series, among others Portal. He left Valve in 2017, but resumed working with the studio a few years later and was responsible, among other things, for the plot of this year's Aperture Desk Job. Jay Pinkerton, in turn, was involved in the work on, among others. Portal 2, Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life: Alyx.
- Two days ago, the Did You Know Gaming channel published a video dedicated to the potential of Portal 3, available below. In it, Wolpaw revealed that he and Pinkerton have a great idea for the plot of the third installment.
- This is only an outline of what direction the story in the series would take and how the next installment would begin. The developers have not prepared a script for the entire game or its puzzles. However, both Wolpaw and Pinkerton are very excited about the concept they have come up with and hope to turn it into Portal 3.
- The screenwriters have already talked to many people at Valve about the project and some of them have expressed interest. At the moment, however, most are busy with other productions, and Wolpaw believes that the best time to try to push for the third part of the series should be when a large part of the studio is transitioning between different projects.
- Wolpaw also stated that he has nothing against spin-offs (such as Bridge Constructor Portal), as long as they don't diminish the chances of making Portal 3.
Recall that Portal 2 debuted in April 2011. So we have been waiting for the third part for almost 12 long years.. This year a nice gift for fans of the brand turned out to be Aperture Desk Job, which is a short and free game from the universe. It was designed to familiarize players with Steam Deck, but it can be played with a regular gamepad.
While waiting for the announcement of Portal 3, it is worth checking out fan adventures for the second installment
Even if Wolpaw manages to convince Valve to make Portal 3, it will still be many years before the game hits the market. Fortunately, lovers of the franchise can not complain about a lack of activities, as fan adventures and campaigns for the series are still regularly released. Here are some recommended mods with new challenges for Portal 2.
