Jim Ryan Confirms: Nixxes Will Help Port PlayStation IPs to PC
The debut of the next PlayStation exclusive brands on PC needs to be considered a foregone conclusion. This is confirmed by the words of Jim Ryan from Sony Interactive Entertainment, according to whom the company's initiative is still at an early stage.
Since the release of Death Stranding and, a little later, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Days Gone on PC, gamer speculation about the release of more PlayStation exclusive titles on PC is no longer just the vision of a madman. Discussions have gained momentum after the recent acquisition of Nixxes Software by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the former being famous mainly thanks to ports of games to different platforms. Jim Ryan confirmed that these are not just pipe dreams. In an interview with Famitsu, SIE's CEO stated that the company is still in its infancy when it comes to porting its franchises to PC and believes that the Nixxes team will help in this endeavor:
"We are also very happy with our efforts to bring our own franchises to PC, although we are still in the very early stages. We have high hopes of working with Nixxes to support us in this endeavor."
It's telling that Sony has made no secret of the plans to port more games to what is, truth be told, a rival platform. Previously, the company was reluctant to mention such a possibility, even after the release of the first "exclusives" on PC. Meanwhile, barely ten days ago, Jim Ryan even mentioned expansion into the mobile market.
Even earlier, PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst openly admitted that Sony wants to see more games from its catalogue on PC. There's a catch, though - we're expected to wait up to a couple of years after the game's launch for it to appear beyond PlayStation. The new, more multiplatform approach is also manifested in Sony's desire to include cross-play options in as many of games as possible. This could be treated as purely marketing declarations, were it not for the aforementioned acquisition of Nixxes and the story of Death Stranding, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Days Gone. Who knows, maybe the day when God of War and Bloodborne will appear on PC is not so distant after all?
