Persona 5 Sold Over 9 Million Copies; Rest of the Series Can Only Dream of It
Sega and Atlus have announced updated sales results for Persona 5. The title has left all other installments of the series far behind.
Atlus boasted the sales results of Persona 5.
- Sales of all editions of this jRPG (and therefore also the expanded edition subtitled Royal) have exceeded 9 million copies.
- The result of the entire Persona series, since its debut 26 years ago, is more than 17.7 million copies.
- Thus, Persona 5 accounts for half of the total sales of the entire series.
- So it is clear that the fifth installment was a great success and opened the brand to a large group of new players.
Recall that Persona 5 was released in April 2017 on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Three years later, it was released as Persona 5 Royal, first only on PS4, and a few months later also on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. The game is also available as part of Game Pass, both on PC and Xbox consoles.
It is worth mentioning that at the beginning of June, Atlus announced a Persona 3 Reload. It's a remake of the third installment, which was realized in a style similar to P5. Given the success of Persona 5 it is not a special surprise that the devs decided to remind the classic installment of the series in this particular form. The project will be released next year on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
