Persona 3 Portable on PC and New Consoles; First Reviews

Persona 3 joined the newer installments of the series on PCs and modern consoles.

Today, Persona 3 Portable made its debut on Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch (and PS5 as part of backward compatibility).

Atlus has not released a new trailer for the occasion, so we can only recommend watching the game's opening video, which the developers released for the 25th anniversary of the Shin Megami Tensei brand, and a trailer announcing the debut of the entire series on new platforms.

So far, few reviewers have rated the PC edition of Persona 3, and there are not many opinions on releases for modern consoles either. Nevertheless, it seems that the third Persona has again delighted journalists and gamers alike. Both on OpenCritic, as well as on Metacritic the game can boast a review average of more than 80/100.

Some journalists consider the game a must-play item for all RPG fans, which they had trouble abandoning. Most reviewers are more reserved, but they too praise the game's story layer and gameplay.

Worse marks were given to the Tartarus tour, which after more than 15 years is too monotonous for modern audiences. Other elements are also a bit outdated, which may sting the eyes of players who have experienced newer Persona games.

Persona 3 is a great RPG, but it is old.

Nevertheless, Persona 3: Portable has been to the liking of journalists. Gamers also seem to be satisfied, although not without some complaints. On Steam 411 reviews have been issued, with 83% of them being positive.

The complaints often boil down to the aforementioned outdated solutions, such as dialogues without 3D models, something common in visual novels. Some users also have reservations about the quality of the port. Especially the sound layer, which, in their opinion, performs worse than on the PSP, and visually the whole thing has not been improved much compared to the version from Sony's handheld (which manifests itself, among other things, in blurred backgrounds).

At the time of writing, Persona 3 Portable was being played on Steam by about 2,500 people at the same time, and at the hottest moment, 3,515 users were playing the game (via SteamDB).

This is a worse result than that of the gold edition of the fourth installment (and even more so when compared to Persona 5), but less than 24 hours have passed since the release. Time will tell if Persona 3 Portable will match its successors on PC.
