PayDay 3 Faces Intense Patching; Roadmap [Update: First Major Patch Delayed]
Starbreeze has revealed PayDay 3's development plans for the coming months. For now, the developers will focus on patching the game, which just happens to be a necessity in this case.
Update
Starbreeze announced that the first update described below had to be delayed. The update, which was supposed to come out last night and introduce more than 200 fixes, will not be released until mid-October, as it turns out. The reason is the need for modifications due to the patch's unstable performance. Whether this will adversely affect the release schedule for future patches remains to be seen.
Unfortunately, it also means that owners of the PS5 version of the game will have to wait longer to be able to download bonus content. More details on this issue can be found here.
Original news (October 3)
Launch of the co-op shooter PayDay 3 proved to be quite a disappointment, mainly due to various technical issues. The most serious of these were related to servers, which have now been stabilized, but this has not calmed the moods among the players.
On Steam, the game currently has only 38% positive reviews, which is categorized as a "mostly negative" reception. Not surprisingly, the studio responsible for the project, Starbreeze has informed of plans to develop and fix the project in the coming months.
Deadline: | Plans: |
October 2023. | More than 200 fixes to various elements of the game. |
October/November 2023. | Improvements to various game elements plus additional content and new features. |
November 2023. | Further improvements to various game elements plus additional content and new features. |
Winter 2023. | First paid DLC - Syntax Error. |
As you can see, the developers first want to focus on getting the game to acceptable condition before they start releasing paid expansions.
More people play PayDay 2 than PayDay 3
Despite the problems and cold reception of PayDay 3 still boasts good activity figures.
- Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day on Steam, the game was played by 21 thousand concurrent players, which is a very solid result.
- The problem is that yesterday's record of PayDay 2 was more than half of that and amounted to 36,000 people.
- However, the brand is still very popular, and if the developers fix the third part of the series, fans will most likely return to it.
Of course, PayDay 3 is not only available on Steam. The devs boasted that counting all platforms (including Game Pass users) in the last five days, the game's activity record was 124 thousand concurrent users. In total, more than 3.1 million people have already played the game.
PayDay 3 debuted simultaneously on PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5. The game is also available as part of Game Pass subscription - both on PC and Xbox consoles.
