- The update for American Truck Simulator, meanwhile, adds new chassis types, vantage points in New Mexico and Oregon, and customization options for the Western Star 49X truck.
After more than a month of open beta testing, virtual truck enthusiasts finally got their wish - updates 1.40 for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator are now officially available. They have one main thing in common, namely the new lighting system. SCS Software has been boasting about it for quite some time. The Czech team set themselves the goal of changing both the natural and artificial light coming from street lamps and the interior of the cab of our vehicle in such a way as to make them more realistic. As a consequence, we can expect for example improved reflections or weather conditions. More details can be found here.
As SCS Software's representative revealed on the studio's official blog, it took programmers, visual effects specialists, etc. many hours of work to prepare the new lighting system for ETS2 and ATS. Many changes had to be made to the game code, as well as model tweaks and texture changes. However, the Czech team hopes that their efforts will make the hit truck sim even more enjoyable. Should this not be the case, players are encouraged to submit their comments. They will certainly be considered by the developers.
Apart from the issue of lighting, patches 1.40 for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator are quite clearly different in content. Let us take a look at them separately.
Update 1.40 for ETS2
The latest patch for Euro Truck Simulator 2 brings further improvements to virtual Germany. This means that the long-running Revisiting Germany project has reached its final phase. As part of the project, a specially delegated team has completely rebuilt the roads and highways in the part of the country that had not been affected in previous updates. The areas around Dortmund, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Duisburg have also been heavily transformed.
Furthermore, thanks to update 1.40, owners of the Vive la France! DLC can enjoy two new cities - Bayonne and Lacq. Two new hubs in Toulouse and Bordeaux have also been added. These are part of preparations for the release of the Iberia expansion, which is due next month.
Finally, patch 1.40 introduces two new trailer and truck paint schemes for ETS2, part of the Super Stripes Paint Jobs Pack DLC. They were selected during a community vote on Facebook and you can see them below.
