Patch 1.5 for Cyberpunk 2077 and Future of The Witcher - News From CD Projekt

Adam Kicinski shared information on the future of CD Projekt RED's two biggest games - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077. We're still awaiting next-gen versions of both.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Adam Kicinski, the CEO of CD Projekt, talked in length about further development of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3;
  2. In Q1 2022, we can expect a big update for Cyberpunk (patch 1.5);
  3. In turn, the next-gen console version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt isn't coming along as the team hoped it would.

The president of CDP announced that patch 1.5, the next major update of Cyberpunk 2077 will be launched in the first months of 2022 (at the same time the game will also be released on next-gen consoles). Apart from that, we also learned more about The Witcher 3, which should be available on Xbox SX/S and PlayStation 5 in Q2 2022.

Staying on the subjct of next-gen games – in an interview with Polish weekly Rzeczpospolita, Adam Kicinski was asked about the decision to postpone the release of Cyberpunk on next-gen consoles. As he says, it was not an easy decision:

"The decision to postpone the next-gen version of Cyberpunk was a difficult one, but we are convinced that it was also the right one, especially as it was clearly recommended by our development team. We need additional time to refine the game's visuals and performance so that the quality is as high as possible throughout the game."

The same goes for optimization of The Witcher on Xbox SX/S and PS5 consoles. As Kicinski says, the work takes longer than the company would like, but the main reason is that the game itself is quite old – it's been 7 years. The technological leap that happened in the meantime was a big one, so there's many gaps to bridge.

When The Witcher hits the the next gen, we can expect more DLCs for the game, which, as we can learn from the interview, will be inspired by Netflix's show.

There was also the question which CDP RED will be asked for many years to come, namely: What lessons were learned from last year's launch of Cyberpunk? As Kicinski says, it was the most complicated project, and the imperfections motivate the Reds to work. This is why CDP's CEO believes that in the future, Cyberpunk 2077 will be perceived as a good game.

Whether this is the case we'll find out next year, when the aforementioned patch 1.5 is launched. Until then, players must rely on modders, who remain busy, adding new content such as new vehicles to the game.
