Overwatch is coming to PC and consoles in Spring 2016, most likely as a full price game
Overwatch is most probably going to be a full price title, not a free-to-play game as many expected. What is more, the Blizzard’s online shooter will appear on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One simultaneously with the PC release in Spring 2016.
Contrary to expectations of many, Blizzard’s Overwatch appears to be a full price title, not a free-to-play game. This was first reported by Kotaku, who noted that GameStop retailers in NYC started offering pre-orders for $60. While this could mean that Overwatch will simply receive a pricy exclusive content pack, a splash page released by Blizzard (see the image below) includes information about PC DVD retail version, which is uncommon for a free-to-play game. I guess all doubts will be cleared at this weekend’ BlizzCon.
Moreover, the upcoming online shooter is also going to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, together with PC edition, in Spring 2016. While it was very likely that the game would hit consoles eventually, we did not expect that to happen simultaneously with the PC release. Last week players worldwide started joining Overwatch closed beta – more and more fans will be invited for testing later.
Right now fans of Blizzard Entertainment focus their attention on BlizzCon 2015, starting today. This is the moment of year when the renowned video game publisher brings forth the biggest announcements, so all excitement is justified.
