Yesterday we saw a long presentation about the upcoming Overwatch 2. Thanks to it, we learned something about gameplay, its new features and other aspects.
We also know how the microtransactions present in the game will look like. Blizzard Entertainment has revealed what players will be able to spend their money on.
Overwatch 2 without lootboxes
Overwatch 2 will be characterized by one radical change in comparison to the previous installment. This time we will be dealing with a free-to-play game, so the creators had to change the way they intend to monetize the game.
The obvious solution to this issue is the implementation of microtractions. Many players may not like it, but this is the basic method of monetization of F2P games. Now we found out how exactly it will look like.
First of all, Blizzard Entertainment announced that there will be no lootboxes in the game. So we can count on much more transparent microtransactions.
When reaching into the wallet, players will know what they actually spend their money on. We will be able to buy, among other things, cosmetic items that will appear in the in-app store. These extras will also be available as part of the previously purchased Battle Pass.
It was also announced that new elements will appear in the game every nine weeks as part of the next support seasons.
A game developed over the years
Blizzard also shared plans for the development of the game. According to the studio, Overwatch 2 will be a game supported for years to come, and some information about it has already been revealed.
Each season will mean new characters, maps, cosmetic items and Battle Passes. More game modes will also be coming to the game over time, with the first (Push) debuting at the start of Season 1. In 2023 Overwatch 2 will also receive modes offering PvE gameplay.
The game will also support a cross progression system. Nothing will stand in the way to use one account to play on different platforms, depending on our discretion.
We will be able to start playing still this year. Overwatch 2 will debut in early access on October 4, 2022.
